Not Only Theatre

Master class with Wojciech Plewiński

16.06 (Saturday), 11.00–13.00
MICET, The National Stary Theatre in Krakow

A meeting with Wojciech Plewiński together with a talk on selected photographs from the artist’s archives and the collections of the Stary Theatre.

Born in Warsaw in 1928, Wojciech Plewiński is among the key representatives of the postwar generation of Polish photographers. He is a close relative of the French humanist photographers of the 1950s—Robert Doisneau, Édouard Boubat, sometimes Henri Cartier-Bresson—possessing a remarkably sensitive and alert gaze, practically free of irony, though his visual language did sharpen slightly over time.

The vast part of his photography documents the Polish theatre scene. From the 1950s to the early twenty-first century he documented over 820 plays, mainly in the theatres of Krakow and Warsaw. Among these were productions by the most outstanding Polish directors, including Jerzy Grzegorzewski, Krystian Lupa and Andrzej Wajda.
